4 Medical Colleges slapped NMC show cause notice for alleged non payment of stipends

Taking action over the allegations of non-payment of stipend to PG medicos, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) sought an explanation from 4 medical colleges.

Although the UP-based Subharti Medical College has denied all claims regarding no stipend and complaints of mental harassment, Dr. Lakshya Mittal, the National President of the United Doctors’ Front Association (UDFA) has urged the Commission to ensure a proper follow-up of its case.

Bringing good news to MBBS aspirants seeking admissions in Tripura based medical colleges, the National Medical Council (NMC) has approved 150 MBBS seats at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College.

Speaking to PTI, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said a private medical college in the state has received permission from the authorities to begin MBBS course for 150 students from the 2024-25 academic year.

In a prelude to their planned strike on September 9, doctors in government hospitals across Punjab have taken to distributing a two-page pamphlet to patients, outlining their key demands and the reasons behind their action. This move aims to inform the public about the issues at stake and garner support for their cause.

Before the strike called by the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA), doctors stapled a pamphlet to the Outpatient Department (OPD) slips given to patients. The pamphlet, written in Punjabi and addressed to “Dear People!”, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government for not increasing healthcare spending over the years and highlighted the numerous vacant positions across hospitals in the state.

 In a shocking incident, a teenage boy in Bihar’s Saran district died after a ‘quack’ allegedly operated on the patient for removal of the gall-bladder stone, taking help of YouTube tutorial videos.

Following this, the quack Ajit Kumar Puri, who allegedly performed the gall bladder-stone removal surgery, was arrested from Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Sunday night, Kumar Ashish, Superintendent of Police (SP), Saran, told PTI on Monday.
