Uttar Pradesh- Currently, Uttar Pradesh (UP) National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG) Round 2 Counselling 2024 is going on. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Director General, Medical Education (UPDGME) has issued an important notice regarding the resignation by candidates admitted in the first/second round under UP NEET PG-2024.
Through the notice, candidates admitted through counselling of the first/second round under UP NEET PG-2024 are informed that if they want to resign from their admitted seat, then such interested candidates can resign 02 days before the choice filling of the third round i.e. till 2:00 pm on 06 January 2025. To submit the resignation and complete the necessary action, the candidate will have to personally appear at the nodal centre where the admission process has been completed.
Meanwhile, as per the UP NEET PG counselling 2024 schedule, choice filling for Round 2 will begin on December 13, 2024, and end on December 18, 2024. After this, the Round 2 result of seat allotment will be declared on 20th December 2024. Thereafter, candidates can download the allotment letter and complete the admission process by December 28, 2024. However, NEET PG Round 2 counselling begins on December 12, 2024, and ends on December 28, 2024.

Along with this, UPDGME has also recently released the tentative seat matrix for the 2nd round of counselling of MD and MS for the academic year 2024. As per the tentative seat matrix, a total of 1647 seats are vacant in the 2nd round of counselling of MD and MS across 61 medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh.

Jamshedpur: The MGM Medical College, located at Dimna Chowk is facing a critical shortage of medical staff, worsened by the hospital’s recent move to a larger building with a 750-bed capacity. Currently, the hospital has only 178 doctors, far below the approved strength of 309, leaving 131 vacancies.
This staffing shortage is putting a tremendous strain on the hospital’s capacity to deliver timely and effective patient care.
MGM Hospital has 309 approved positions for various medical roles, including professors, associate professors, and junior and senior residents. However, despite this, only 178 doctors are currently on staff. This shortage is particularly alarming in the medical college wing of MGM, where there is a critical lack of faculty.
Dr Nakul Chaudhary, Deputy Superintendent of MGM Hospital, highlighted that every department is grappling with a shortage of professors. He pointed out that the hospital currently has only 24 professors, despite having 34 approved posts, and just 10 associate professors, while 40 are required. Furthermore, he noted that five departments are entirely without professors.
The dual roles of faculty members have created a precarious situation, as they are responsible not only for teaching medical students but also for providing patient care. This additional responsibility has further strained the already limited number of available doctors.
Dr Chaudhary added, “The department has written to higher authorities to address the staffing shortage. In the interim, we’ve requested the recruitment of external doctors to ensure that patients don’t face undue difficulty”, reports the Avenue Mail.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Raigarh Government Medical College (GMC) which has been operating for nearly ten years is facing a severe staffing shortage. The college plans to fill approximately 200 positions, including Professor, Assistant Professor, Junior, and Senior Resident Doctor positions, of which 80 are currently vacant. According to sources at the college, more than 55% of the positions across the entire institution are currently unfilled.

Siemens AG is evaluating its majority stake in Siemens Healthineers, its medical technology subsidiary, the German technology group’s Chief Financial Officer Ralf Thomas told the Handelsblatt newspaper.
“We are evaluating the economic opportunities for Siemens AG in the healthcare sector. We will then derive from this how instrumental Healthineers is as an investment. And then we will draw a conclusion from that,” Thomas said. The findings of this review are expected to be unveiled at a capital markets day at the end of 2025.
The synergies with the manufacturer of MRI machines and laboratory systems are not great enough to justify a capital commitment of 45 billion euros ($46.91 billion), Thomas told Handelsblatt, referring to how much Siemens’ 75% equity stake is worth.

New Delhi: Citing lack of evidence, the Delhi High Court has granted relief to a woman doctor accused of disclosing the sex of a foetus. The court noted that the uncontroverted allegations against her were confined to performing an ultrasound on a decoy patient, with no evidence indicating that she determined or communicated the foetus’ sex.
Delhi High Court has quashed an FIR against a doctor in a case of alleged disclosure of a foetus‘ sex, saying there was nothing to show that the pre-diagnostic techniques conducted by the medical practitioner were in violation of the law.
The high court said it was clear that the uncontroverted allegations against the woman doctor were merely limited to the claim that she performed ultrasound on the decoy patient.
According to the PTI report, “There is nothing placed on record to satisfy this court that the operation so performed by the petitioner was in contravention of the law,” Justice Chandra Dhari Singh said in an order passed last month.
“There is no averment made to satisfy this court that the pre-diagnostic techniques were conducted by the petitioner in violation of Section 4 of the PC and PNDT Act, or that the petitioner herself determined or communicated the sex of the foetus, violating Section 5 and 6 of the PC and PNDT Act,” according to the order.
The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act prohibits the use of prenatal diagnostic techniques to determine the sex of a foetus.
The court said it was satisfied that a prima facie case had not been made out against the doctor.
In August 2020, a raid or decoy operation was conducted at an ultrasound centre in Hari Nagar.
A case was registered on allegations that an ultrasound was conducted by the petitioner doctor on a decoy patient and the alleged disclosure of sex of the foetus was made by another person who was an employee at the lab.
Police lodged an FIR under provisions of the PC and PNDT Act and the doctor was arrested before later being granted bail.
She approached the high court, seeking quashing of the FIR.
The doctor submitted that the police had not filed a chargesheet despite more than three years having passed, suggesting there was no case to be made out against her.
It was submitted that the petitioner had deep roots in society and the presence of the FIR against her would impact her standing.
The prosecution opposed the plea, saying the ultrasound was conducted by the petitioner and the alleged disclosure of the foetus’ sex was done by a co-accused.
The high court noted that the specific role assigned to the petitioner was merely limited to conducting ultrasound on the decoy patient and there was no allegation made in the FIR against her which, when considered uncontroverted, made out a prima facie case against her under the PC and PNDT Act.
“It is also important to note that there has been an inordinate delay in filing the chargesheet. Therefore, this court is of the considered view that the present FIR is liable to be quashed to avoid any further harassment to the petitioner,” it said.

Cambridge: Atavistik Bio, a biotechnology company has announced that it has entered into a research collaboration with Pfizer to accelerate the discovery of novel precision allosteric therapeutics to address significant unmet medical needs.
Under the terms of the collaboration, Atavistik Bio will leverage its proprietary AMPS platform to identify novel allosteric binders against two undisclosed, targets selected by Pfizer. At the completion of the research period, Pfizer will have the option to license the programs. The financial terms of the collaboration are undisclosed.

Bengaluru- To improve the public healthcare system of Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is considering to set up a new medical college in the city under its jurisdiction. In this regard, the feasibility report for the medical college was obtained by the BBMP a year ago.
Now BBMP has got approval to establish a new medical college. After the approval, the project report has also been prepared. On this, an official also informed that a plan has been prepared to establish the hospital at a cost of Rs 350 crore. Therefore, a proposal for funding has already been submitted to the government.
“We have prepared a plan to improve the city’s healthcare system, including modernisation of hospitals and infrastructure at a cost of Rs 350 crore. A proposal for funding under the “Band Bengaluru” scheme has already been submitted to the government”, the official informed BengaluruMirror .
Currently, the BBMP manages 6 referral hospitals, 26 maternity hospitals, 135 primary health centres, one public hospital and 220 clinics. Hence, with the establishment of this new medical college, the BBMP will be able to deliver better services, the official added.
Moreover, Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the BBMP had considered setting up the medical college in the MC layout of Govindarajanagar. However, the setting up of the college will depend on the resolution of the location dispute over this land.
On this, an officer said BBMP is trying to finish all the prerequisites to start the college. One of the officers added, “We may need Rs 500 crore to start the medical college and it will be the first such college run by a local body in the state.”
The civic body has prepared a comprehensive proposal seeking a fund allocation of Rs 500 crore in the upcoming state budget to materialize this ambitious project. Officials emphasized that the hospital, inaugurated in February 2013 at a cost of Rs 106 crore, boasts a 300-bed capacity and various services, including outpatient facilities, maternity care, and chemotherapy, which are set to commence shortly, reports the Daily.

Tirupati: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its approval to the government medical college in Nellore
for begining the courses of MS (General Surgery) and MS (Orthopaedics) programs
for the 2024–2025 academic year.
As of now nine seats have been approved
altogether for the two programs.
A Master of Surgery (MS) in General Surgery is a three-year postgraduate medical program that teaches students how to perform surgical procedures and manage patients. MS in Orthopedics is a postgraduate medical degree program that focuses on the study and practice of orthopedics. Orthopedics is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Secretary (Medical Education), gave the directives on Tuesday. The National
Medical Commission rejected the government medical college in Nellore’s initial
application in October of last year to launch a new MS (General Surgery)
program with 15 seats and an MS (Orthopaedics) program with 12 seats, reports Times of India.
After learning about the
problem, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy had met with National
Medical Commission chairman BN Gangadhar and Union Minister for Health and
Family Welfare JP Nadda to request their assistance.
Later, a group of
officials inspected the government medical college in Nellore once more and
submitted a positive report to the National Medical Commission. As a result,
the Nellore Medical College was granted permission to start the MS (General
Surgery) program with five seats and the MS (Orthopaedics) program with four
seats starting this academic year.

In 2022, the government
medical college in Nellore also known as AC Subba Reddy Government Medical
College applied to the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking permission for
115 to 120 PG medical courses in both clinical and non-clinical specialties. The
college sought NMC nod for two seats each in the non-clinical subjects
including Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Micro Biology, Forensic Medicine,
Bio-Chemistry, Pathology, and SPM (Social and Preventive Medicine).

Telangana: Issuing notice to Hyderabad-based Hospital for allegedly colluding with unqualified persons and promoting fake doctors, the Telangana Medical Council has sought an explanation from the hospital management.
Setting a 10-day deadline for the Rushcare Hospital, the Medical Council has clarified that failure to submit any explanation would attract punitive actions under the law.
The Council has initiated action against the hospital for its alleged involvement in sponsoring the 18th annual meeting of the Sushruta Rural Medical Association in Nalgonda on December 24, where fake doctors were allegedly encouraged.
Taking cognizance of this, the Council wrote to the Medical Superintendent of Rushcare Hospital on 03.01.2025 and mentioned, “With reference to the advertisement in the social media through Whatsapp, the Telangana Medical Council has come to know that your hospital is associated with the Sushritha Grameena Vaidyla Sangam, Nalgonda and invited the public to participate in the 18th Annual Meet on 25.12.2024 at Sushritha Grameena Vaidyula Sangam Bhavan, Opp Sakshi Press, Addanki Bypass Road, Nalgonda.”
In the communication, issued by TGMC Registrar Dr. Dhandem Lalaiah Kumar, the Council explained that the hospital’s action of giving advertisement by allegedly colluding with unqualified persons and inviting the public to participate in the meeting conducted on 25.12.2024, it had committed an offence against the rules of TGMP Act and NMC Act.
Clarifying that the hospital would face action if it failed to submit any explanation within 10 days, the Council mentioned, “Hence in view of the above, you are hereby directed to submit your detailed explanation within 10 days from the date of receipt of this notice without fail and you are also directed to submit the copy of your hospital registration certificate issued by the concerned District Medical and Health Officer. If you fail to submit your explanation within the stipulated time, the Council presumes that you do not have any answer and the issue will be placed before the Ethics Committee to take necessary action as per law.”
TGMC Vice Chairman Dr. G Srinivas has emphasized that promoting fake doctors such as registered medical practitioners (RMP) or privately managed practitioners (PMP), was unethical. He also highlighted the practice adopted by many hospitals which hired agents to promote unqualified practitioners for marketing. Clarifying that this was illegal, Dr. Srinivas added that it would lead to action against those involved, the Times of India has reported. Meanwhile, the Medical Council has also cautioned the public about the dangers of consulting fake doctors in rural and urban areas.

Goa- The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Goa Medical Counsellling board is going to end the National Eligibility Entrance Test- Postgraduate (NEET PG) Counselling 2024 Round 3 Choice Filling soon i.e., January 7, 2025. Therefore, candidates who are willing to participate in the NEET PG Counselling 2024 Round 3 Choice Filling can fill in their choices through the official website of DTE Goa.
As per the official notice in this regard, all interested and eligible candidates, who wish to be considered for allotment to available seats during the 3rd Round of counselling for Post Graduate Medical Degree courses at Goa Medical College must fill and submit their fresh choice of course options till 7th January 2025. Candidates not submitting this option form will not be considered for allotment to available seats in the Third Round.
Meanwhile, candidates who are allotted a seat in the earlier Rounds of Counselling, reported to the Institution and completed prescribed formalities, and wish to retain their earlier seat allotted, should not submit this form, unless they wish to submit a fresh Choice of Course options, for allotment in the next (Third) Round of Counselling, the official notice further read.
Moreover, the shortlisted candidates will have to report to the allotted college to confirm their seats before the last date. Along with this, candidates will have to pay the required admission fee and submit the necessary documents to confirm their admission within the given deadline.
