NMC remove bar of maximum seats in medical colleges

NATIONAL MEDICAL COMMISSION AMENDMENT NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 23rd April, 2026 F. No. CDN-19012/2/2025-Coordination-NMC.––In exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (d) of subsection (1) of Section 24 read with Sections 26, 28 and 29, of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 (Act No. 30 of 2019), the National Medical Commission, the Under Graduate Medical Education Board hereby makes the following amendments in : the "Guidelines under Regulation 10 of the Establishment of New Medical Institutions, Starting of New Medical Courses, Increase of Seats for Existing Courses & Assessment and Rating Regulation 2023 in short (UG-MSR 2023)" and Regulation 19 of the Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 notified in Extraordinary Gazette of India Part-III Section 4 vide ADVT-III/Exty/360/2023-24 dated 16.08.2023:- 1. In Chapter –I under the heading objectives: The following objective in the UG-MSR 2023 ‘Colleges seeking increased number of seats cannot exceed a total of 150 MBBS students from the Year 2024-25’ shall be deleted. 2 . In Chapter –I under the heading objectives: The proviso under the Objective in the UG-MSR 2023 “Provided that medical college shall follow the ratio of 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population in that state/U.T’’ shall be deleted. 3. In the Schedule I under the A.1.GENERAL the existing phrase ‘The distance between the plots of college and hospital shall have a travel time of maximum of 30 minutes’ shall be read as: ‘The maximum distance between the plots of college and hospital shall be 10 Km and in the case of North Eastern Region States and Himalayan States, maximum distance between the plots of college and hospital shall be 15 Km’.
